Διατροφή

Archeon Gefsis serves dishes based on original ancient recipes proved by studies to have high nutritional value and healing powers.

So, if you order black olives with cheese cream for starters you have an ally in the battle against respiratory infections, while if you ask for the popular creokakkabos (pieces of meat with sweet sauce made of honey, thyme and vinegar served with chickpea puree) you enhance your lucidity with a dish that has antimicrobiotic and antibiotic powers!

Traditional Greek cuisine has been scientifically acknowledged to be the best model of nutrition in the world. Even better was ancient Greek cuisine, since it was rich in cereal and dairy products, vegetables, fruit and oil. In particular, ancient Greek cuisine features honey that people would often mix with cereals and eat in the form of oatmeal, fruit and vegetables, olive oil, watered down wine, meat, cobs, wine pairing appetizers, legumes such as lentils and chickpeas, barley rusks, desserts like syrup desserts and honey pies, salads, souvlaki and so on. Food was usually either roasted or boiled and often spiced. And let us not forget that food is what ancient Greeks would offer to their gods (meat, fruit, honey pies, etc.).

At this point it should be noted that honey, which ancient Greeks adored and even exported, is good for health and should therefore replace harmful processed carbohydrates such as sugar and other sweeteners.
Back to the subject of Greek cuisine, many scientists claim that the Mediterranean diet is the best for health; however, they should be referring to and meaning the Greek diet.

Greek diet is based on vegetables, legumes, fruit, dairy products, olive oil that protects against heart disease and meat. It is rich in nutritional ingredients and low in fats, especially saturated fats that are the underlying cause of arteriosclerosis and heart disease. Greek diet contains a significant amount of vitamins and dietary fibers that are highly beneficial to the intestinal system and protect against colon cancer. Moreover, it contains antioxidotic elements like vitamins Α, C, E that protect against ageing and cancer through combating the free radicals that destroy cell membranes and alter the genetic material.
At the same time, Greek diet (especially olive oil) protects against heart disease, ageing, infections and other disease. Greek cuisine places great emphasis on oil (olive oil and not the one produced from genetically altered soy) that contains the antioxidotic vitamin Ε. Pure olive oil is not used in other cuisines. However, today olive oil is unfortunately refined.

Cretan longevity is attributed to olive oil, as well as to red wine that contains the antioxidotic compounds called flavonoids. Sadly, wine tends to be replaced by beer that is nutritionally bad for health, since it contains many calories and cobalt that has been found to cause heart disease.

Being rich in antioxidotic and natural anti-inflammatory elements such as vitamins A, C and E, Greek cuisine provides protection not only against cancer but also against arteriosclerosis.

Finally, major part of Greek cuisine form the dairy products that provide protection against osteoporosis and supply the body with nutritional ingredients. A good example of this is the Greek feta cheese that tastes delicious being at the same time low in fat.
